Feminist Approaches to Narrative

In keeping with this year’s conference theme, this panel seeks papers that explore how women narrate their own and others’ lives through various mediums, such as fiction, autobiography, memoir, film, theater, performance, etc. Papers might also conduct readings of texts through a feminist critical lens, or in light of key feminist debates. Paper topics may include, but are certainly not limited to:

• The social construction and deconstruction of sex and gender
• Performativity
• Memory and authenticity
• The body and embodiment
• Identity and experience
• “Difference” feminisms, strategic essentialism, and problematizing the universal
• Masculinities
• Race, ethnicity, and empire
